I’m a documentary wedding photographer based in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. I’m an experienced commercial, fashion and PR photographer who has spent over a decade producing photography for a range of clients and have shot national advertising campaigns, even photographing Liz Hurley and the Prime Minister. Please visit my commercial photography website www.davidrieraphotography.co.uk to see some of the photography and films I have produced.
Many weekend wedding photographers will claim a documentary style, but my documentary wedding photography is true reportage – telling the story of your day naturally through unobtrusive and creative wedding photojournalism. I’m available for wedding photography in Gloucestershire, Bristol, Oxfordshire, Birmingham and the surrounding counties, I love to travel throughout the UK and for destination wedding photography abroad.
Interesting fact: The word “photography” was created from the Greek φωτός (phōtos), “light” and γραφή (graphé) together meaning “drawing with light”.
Weddings are very fast paced events so being able to see the light quickly and knowing what I want to achieve is really important. Documentary wedding photography involves looking for the angles, light and pressing the shutter at exactly the right time.
As much as I enjoy the documentary part of wedding photography I love to shoot creative bride and groom portraits. I engage couples with each other to promote interaction and togetherness. I want to capture a moment between a couple that looks natural and unforced.
I also produce short creative cinematic wedding movies, filmed in High Definition with every second coloured and edited to perfection; spending hours making your film look as beautiful as it should be.
“To me, the magic of photography, per se, is that you can capture an instant of a second that couldn’t exist before and couldn’t exist after. It’s almost like a cowboy that draws his gun. You draw a second before or after, you miss and you’re dead – not them. To me, photography’s always like that.”
